General Surgery Specialist – Breast Cancer and Diseases

I graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, which I started in 2003, in 2010. During my medical education, I improved not only my knowledge but also my ability to communicate with people, take responsibility and empathize. During my student years, I took part in positions such as student president and international representative. I saw medicine as understanding people both with their bodies and emotions, and I maintained this perspective throughout my career.

WE COMPILED THE QUESTIONS YOU ARE CURIOUS ABOUT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is breast-conserving surgery possible? (Will my breast be removed?)
Our priority in our current surgical approaches is to preserve the aesthetic integrity of the breast while removing cancerous tissue within safe limits. In most early stage cases, we can achieve successful results by removing only the tumor area (Breast Conserving Surgery) without removing the entire breast.
Do all armpit lymph nodes have to be removed?
No. Thanks to our Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy method, we take samples from the lymph nodes and examine them during surgery. If the cancer has not spread, we do not touch other lymph nodes in the armpit; Thus, we minimize the risk of arm swelling (lymphedema).
What is the aesthetic appearance like after surgery? (Oncoplastic Surgery)
Our expertise at the associate professorship level is based on oncoplastic surgery. In other words, we include plastic surgery techniques in the surgical process to prevent the shape of the breast from being distorted while removing the tumor. Our goal is not only for you to regain your health, but also for you to feel good when you look in the mirror.
Does having a biopsy cause cancer to spread?
This is a very common but wrong belief. Fine or thick needle biopsies do not cause cancer to spread. On the contrary, biopsy is vital to determine the correct treatment plan (surgery first, chemotherapy first?).
How soon after the surgery can I return to my social life?
We usually discharge our patients the day after surgery. You can safely return to your daily routines and social life within 1 week after simple breast operations and within 2 weeks after more extensive surgeries.
Is breastfeeding possible after breast cancer surgery?
Breastfeeding is technically possible in our patients who have undergone breast-conserving surgery, as long as the remaining breast tissue and milk ducts are preserved. However, medications during the treatment process (chemotherapy, etc.) may affect the breastfeeding decision; You should plan this situation with your doctor.
When are drains removed after surgery?
Drains are used to remove leakage from the surgical field. It is usually removed painlessly in our office when the daily fluid amount drops below 20-30 cc (on average within 3-7 days).
What should be the surgical approach in case of genetic predisposition (BRCA)?
In patients with genetic mutations such as BRCA, preventive bilateral breast evacuation (prophylactic mastectomy) and simultaneous repair may be an option. This decision is made individually after genetic counseling and a detailed discussion with our teacher.
